The stage has been set again at Delhi’s famous Purana Qila for the 11th edition of the annual Ananya Dance Festival.

The stage has been set again at Delhi’s famous Purana Qila for the 11th edition of the annual Ananya Dance Festival. This year, the major highlights of the festival include specially designed group choreographies depicting different classical Indian dance forms, a live telecast on Doordarshan and a specially crafted outreach programme for students. The festival will also mark the 150th year celebration of Archeological survey of India (ASI). “Ananya over the years has established itself as one of the most sought after dance festivals in Delhi and Delhiites have enjoyed it in large numbers year after year,” says Sanjeev Bhargava, creative director, Ananya. “Seeing the popularity, we have been getting requests from other cities for a similar festival,” adds Bhargava.

This five-day festival that starts on October 6 will see dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Mohiniattam and Odissi. Some of the names include Saroja Vaidyanathan and troupe from Delhi, Rani Karnaa and troupe from Kolkata and Rudrakshya Dance Company from Bhubaneshwar.

Under the outreach programme, 100 students will get a chance to interact with artists backstage. “We want music, dance, theatre and art to be encouraged among the younger generation as viable alternative career options,” says Bhargava.
