Laxmi Nivas, the old, two-storey building in Gorakhpur’s Turkmanpur area, where noted Urdu poet Raghupati Sahay, better known as Firaq Gorakhpuri, grew up and penned some of his immortal creations, is today Saraswati Shishu Mandir, the junior high school run by the RSS since 1980.

A 1994 Geography graduate from AMU, Aligarh, Bashar started The Civil IAS Academy first at Gandhi Nagar, in Jammu, in 2009, and then at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

Spreading festive cheer with free ‘iftar’ to the poor

After offering namaz at around 5 pm daily, the volunteers, who also observe fast, have been carrying the food packets on their bikes to distribute them to the poor for the last 27 days.

Locals say Girija and Mohan Tripathi had a sudden upward swing after Girija registered an NGO and started the shelter home eight years ago. The couple, who once ran a stitching centre, apparently now owns property and flats in the area.

Some unidentified people stole photocopies of doctors’ degrees from the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College office in Gorakhpur and sold them to others who used these papers to run two fake pathology labs, people familiar with the matter said.
