Three-stage restoration planned for Delhi Sultanate-era reservoir

Delhi's Hauz-i-Shamsi, a once grand reservoir built in the 13th century, is set for restoration by 2024 after years of neglect and pollution.

Strong winds keep AQI at ‘moderate’ in Delhi, minimum at 6.9°C

Strong winds in Delhi have helped keep air pollution at bay for the third consecutive day, with the air quality index settling at 175 (moderate) on Wednesday. This is the best air quality in the city since October last year. The relief from pollution is expected to continue for the next two days before deteriorating to "very poor" on Saturday, according to forecasts.

January ends on a rainy note, max temp drops to 18.6°C in Delhi

The first notable rainfall in Delhi pushed the maximum temperature down by 2.8 degrees Celsius, ending a dry and cold January. The rainfall was attributed to a western disturbance and a dense layer of fog also blanketed the city. The rain did not disperse pollutants, as the average air quality deteriorated. Dense fog is expected to continue for the next two days, with the possibility of light to moderate rain on Thursday. The minimum temperature was recorded at 7.3°C, and the maximum temperature is expected to stay around 20°C for the rest of the week.

The 14th edition of the Delhi Queer Pride parade took place, with participants demanding equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. The parade comes after the Supreme Court denied legal recognition to same-sex couples in October. The court has agreed to review a set of petitions challenging their earlier decision on November 28. Participants at the parade shared their stories and called for legal protection against bullying and discrimination. The parade ended with performances at Jantar Mantar.

Leaders, locals perform yoga in Capital to mark yoga day

Thousands of people gathered at multiple locations across Delhi to celebrate International Yoga Day, organised by the New Delhi Municipal Committee. This year's theme was "Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," with events held in association with Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Art of Living and Bhartiya Yog Sanstha. Delhi's chief minister Arvind Kejriwal did not attend, tweeting about the closure of free yoga classes due to alleged fund termination by the lieutenant governor. The event was first put forward in 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the United Nations General Assembly.
