Hardcore drug peddlers push for a softer law

GUESS WHO is clamouring for an anti-drug law to be made more lenient? Drug peddlers lodged in Lucknow and Barabanki district jails! Perhaps, if they had their way, murderers should be let off with mild punishment. Ditto for other criminals. All this is not good news for a State whose minister was recently caught on camera accepting his involvement in the narcotics trade.

PCL centralised system draws CAG flak

OVER NINE months ago, the UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) replaced the decentralised system of material purchase with the centralized one. The HT had then smelled a rat and published a report quoting sources that alleged that it was mainly the charm of hundreds of crores of rupees being doled out by the Centre under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification programme that had led the officials to centralise the system denying any role in awarding contracts etc., to the subsidiary power companies.

What?s behind LESA?s frequent trips?

IS LESA telling a lie, or is it technical ignorance on the part of those managing power transmission lines? Whatever the reason, at least the under- frequency of the grid is certainly not responsible for frequent power tripping in the trans-Gomti. The preliminary investigations into the matter have established this fact though the real cause is yet to be found out.
