Court extends developer Pujit Aggarwal’s police custody till October 1

The magistrate court on Tuesday extended the police custody of Pujit Aggarwal, managing director and chief executive officer of developer firm Orbit Corporation. He was arrested for cheating a financial firm of over Rs50 crore.

The Economic Offence Wing of Mumbai police had on Tuesday sought extension of Aggarwal’s custody stating that they have come across around 35 bank accounts connected to Aggarwal and his firm. The agency, however, said that further details of these accounts are awaited.(HT file photo)

Chhota Rajan threat? CBI seeks transfer of approver from Yerwada jail

The approver, Sinha, was arrested after he opened fire on a bookie-turned-developer Ajay Gosaliya alias Ajay Ganga outside Infiniti Mall in Malad on 2013. But after his arrest, Sinha turned approver in the case, because of which members of the Chhota Rajan gang are vying for his blood, fears the CBI.

The CBI fears that as some of the members of Chhota Rajan’s (in photo) gang lodged in the same jail as Sinha, it may endanger his life.

Preeti Rathi case: Acid attacks more brutal than rape, says judge

Ankur Panwar, who had hurled acid on Delhi-based Preeti Rathi, was charged with murder after she succumbed to her injuries. He is the first such accused in the country to be sentenced to the gallows.

In May 2013, Panwar had hurled acid on Rathi, who suffered grievous injuries, and later died due to multiple organ failure. It was an act of revenge as Preeti had rejected his marriage proposal. Instead, she opted to join the Indian Navy as a nurse(Hindustan Times)

NIA to probe ISIS Parbhani module

The agency, on Wednesday, registered a fresh case against Naser Bin Yafai Chaus, 31, a contractor and his ISIS handler, Farooq, based on the case registered by the Maharashtra ATS.

Pujit Aggarwal was arrested based on a complaint filed by Ashok Aggarwal, senior vice-president of Capri Global Capital Limited, for failure to hand over property. “Twenty investors came with similar complaints.
