Delhi tops list of world’s most polluted cities, Kolkata close 2nd

Mumbai was ranked 14th. No other Indian city features in the top 20. In terms of the highest disease burden from a PM 2.5-related ailment, though, Beijing, with 124 attributable deaths per 100,000 people was the worst. Delhi came in at 6th, with 106 deaths per 100,000 and Kolkata at 8th with 99.

In August, kites, migration season lethal mix for birds

Some 100 birds were treated for wounds from manjha at Jain Bird Hospital in Chandni Chowk on August 15-16. While the figure may have dropped slightly from last year, where over 120 injured birds were treated, the figure still remains high.

The coated manjha not only pose an immediate threat but also can remain entangled in trees where migratory birds come and perch after August, posing a serious risk to several species throughout the winter, experts said. (ANI)

Uneven spread of parks in Delhi: 2.3K in South Delhi, 142 in north-east

Flood warning issued for Delhi as Yamuna set to rise

The water usually takes around three days to reach Delhi, officials said, adding that the level at Old Railway bridge, which is considered the benchmark for assessing the flood situation in the capital, currently stands at 204.29 metres, which is less than the danger mark of 205.33m.

16 of 26 sewage plants in Delhi do not meet standards: Study

Some of the STPs that were found wanting include newer facilities that have been inaugurated or made operational within the last two years, including the Coronation Pillar STP, the Kondli STP and the new Keshopur plant.

Strong correlation of car’s age, mileage on emissions: Study

The analysis found that age and mileage have a higher correlation with increased CO, HC and air-fuel ratio (AFR). In comparison, no direct correlation was seen with older vehicles and the O2 and CO2 emissions the vehicle was releasing.

SpiceJet flight: DGCA probe on after fliers walk on tarmac at Delhi airport

The incident took place after 11.30pm, soon after SpiceJet’s SG 8108 landed at the Delhi airport from Hyderabad. While most passengers waited for the airline to arrange coaches, some passengers, in the absence of a coach, headed towards the terminal through the tarmac.

The flight was carrying 186 passengers and DGCA says they have asked the airline to respond on the matter.
