Protected water bodies in Delhi may not get wetland status

Sanjay Lake and Smriti Van (Vasant Kunj) are already protected under the Forest Conservation Act, 1980, and will no longer be notified as wetlands.

Illegal water extraction: DPCC starts collecting fines from hotels, guest houses in Paharganj

Initially, notices were issued to only 257 guest houses, as 185 of the total cited Delhi Jal Board’s voluntary disclosure scheme (VDS), but they have also been fined now, DPCC clarified

10 water bodies at Asola Bhatti to store 80mn litres, recharge groundwater table

The department said the average depth of 10 water bodies, all of which were carved out at Sahoorpur, Satbari and Maidangarhi, is around three metres and the average area is 0.9 acres

Officials said that the water bodies have been created at topographically strategic locations where water naturally accumulates.
