SET RULES and guidelines of Allahabad University (AU) for procurement of items are being violated with impunity by the varsity's Zoology department. The department is making bulk purchases from the funds received by it under the lab grant after awarding tenders to firms already declared defaulters by the varsity administration in the past for providing fake details about themselves and owned by a father-son duo in gross violation of the purchase rules.

Misuse of lab grant in university alleged
FUNDS BEING received under the annual Laboratory Grant? meant to purchase chemicals, glassware and, in general, maintain the labs for the benefit of students? are being used by many a department of Allahabad University (AU) for tasks, like cutting of hedges and grass as well as getting the roof cleaned, with impunity in gross violation of the grant usage guidelines. If sources are to be believed, some departments like the Zoology Department have not even bothered to either maintain the stock registers for the past over seven years .

AU gets ASI nod to excavate Rajput era site
THERE IS excitement among the experts of Allahabad University's Department of Ancient History, Culture and Archaeology. They are gearing up to start a dig at an archaeologically promising site near the IERT Hostel that could throw light on the life of the people and their settlement as it existed during the famous Rajput era between 10-12 AD. "We had carried out a survey of the site about two years back during the 2003-04 academic session and then sent a detailed report about it to the Archaeological Survey of India .
