And this battle was fought well by the members of counselling committee for All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE)-2006 at Motilal Nehru National of Institute of Technology (MNNIT) on day three of the counselling that was scheduled for the open category candidates. The counselling finally concluded after 10 days at the MNNIT on Friday.

IIIT-A takes one more stride

WITH THE onset of monsoon, Allahabad's Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-A) seems to be receiving ample success showers. The institute can now boast of being the second rare institution after the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore of the country to have been selected for establishing a patent referral centre by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. A communication in this regard was received by IIIT-A from the Union ministry dated June 14, 2006 .

ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY authorities have finally decided to crack down on publishers of guides and books claiming to contain questions that are sure to come in the varsity's final examinations. In a latest initiative, the university authorities have despatched a four-page letter (05/Registrar/215/2006) to Allahabad's 'D Kumars and Company' which publishes the popular? D Kumars Sure Series? levelling serious charges against the company and instructing the company's top official Dinesh Kumar Agarwal to appear at the AU Registrar's Office at 11 am on July 4 .

Career: UGC touches the right chord

THE UNIVERSITY Grants Commission has asked all universities and the colleges of the country, including the Allahabad University, to formulate their own "need-based" and "career-oriented" courses on a priority basis. The UGC has asked the institutions to prepare the syllabi for these courses on their own by involving subject experts and has also made it clear that if a varsity fails to approve the syllabi prepared by a college within a period of two months .

History museum in constituent colleges soon

TEACHING AND learning ancient history will now become much more interesting and interactive for hundreds of undergraduate students of Allahabad University's constituent colleges too. The varsity is planning to set up a museum at all the colleges to display pre-stone age, stone age and post-stone age artefacts with an aim to help students gain first hand knowledge of the topics being taught to them and see for themselves the fossils about which they had been studying in their course books.
