The project will cost around ₹58 crore, with ₹30 crore allocated in this year's budget. A pumping station will be installed at the lake's shore to transfer the water to the Bhandup water treatment plant. Civic works take a hit as 15 chief engineer posts vacant in BMC

Posts of 15 chief engineers at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are lying vacant, causing delays and hampering ongoing projects. The absence of sub-engineers and junior engineers, who are on election duty, further exacerbates the situation. The posts are allegedly being deliberately kept vacant, forcing one deputy to do the work of two engineers. The need to fill these vacancies comes at a time when the BMC has increased its capital expenditure for development and infrastructure works. Over 800 engineer positions, including junior and sub-engineers, are currently vacant. The Municipal Engineers' Union has requested a reduction in the time required for promotion to chief engineer and called for recruitment advertisements. BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal cited issues with the seniority list as the reason for the vacancies and said that promotions for the 15 chief engineers are being processed.

BMC budget 46 cr shy of 60k cr mark

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai has announced a budget of ₹59,954.75 crore for 2024-25, just ₹46 crore short of the ₹60,000-crore mark. The allocation is 10.5% higher than the previous year, but no new projects were announced and little provision was made to address air pollution. The capital expenditure in this year's budget is higher than the revenue expenditure, with 53% going towards development. The budget includes allocations for the coastal road, the Goregaon Mulund Link Road, and a study on making major infrastructure projects self-sustainable.
