As per Chandigarh director school education Harsuhinderpal Singh Brar, the meeting is being called to reiterate that all schools fall under the purview of the Right to Education Act

Chandigarh has highest percentage of accidents between 9 pm and midnight: NCRB report

As per the accidental deaths and suicides in India 2022 report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Monday, Chandigarh is the only UT and major city in the country where the majority of the accidents happen between 9 pm to midnight.

As per NCRB data, 26.89% of the total 238 accidents in 2022 in Chandigarh, or over one in four accidents happened between 9 pm to midnight. This percentage is also higher as compared to the national average, the UT total average, and 51 other major cities’ total average for which data has been given in the NCRB report. Chandigarh: Police yet to recover 26 L in SI Phogat extortion case

Dismissed police sub-inspector Naveen Phogat surrendered in court but Chandigarh Police have been unable to recover ₹26 lakh from him. Phogat and others had extorted ₹1.01 crore from a businessman after kidnapping him and threatening to kill him. Phogat claims the money is with Parveen Shah, brother of slain gangster Sonu Shah, who is yet to be arrested. Police are tracking details about who was helping Phogat hide. Other accused are still on the run and non-bailable warrants have been issued against them.

PU syndicate nod to create additional seat for transgenders in all courses

PU syndicate has approved the creation of one additional seat for transgender students from 2024-25 session onwards in each course in the Panjab University Teaching Departments Regional Centres. This was approved by the members at the meeting held on Saturday. This will make PU among the first universities of the country to offer seats for transgender students this way.
