Hindi Sansthan is leaking!
MAY 15 showers exposed many loopholes in the UP Hindi Sansthan building. Water seeped from the ceiling, windows, wall-ceiling joints and made an insider feel as if he was out in the open! And so was the plight of over 100 children who were there to participate in the Bal Panchayat. ?Are ye kya, paani paani. Kahan baithein,? cried the children, but organizers chose to ignore. But, all this happened in a dramatic way.

Good, but what to do?
THE DELHI High Court?s no to pre-admission interviews of children and parents at the nursery level has triggered a debate among city schools regarding the viable options and alternatives. A section of principals welcomed the order. But, there are many who hold a different opinion. Principals like Kaushalya Popli of Athena Nursery School says: ?I myself was never in favour of interviews. There are several other options that schools could work on like developing an eye for better understanding of child?s attitude.?

Tagore?s city connection
ON AN evening in 1935 as Srikrishna Ratanjankar?s mellifluous rendition of ?khayal? wafted across the residence of Lucknow University teacher Prof Nirmal Kumar Siddhanta, a man, taken over by the music, sat through the performance even though he was running a high temperature. Such was Rabindranath Tagore?s love for music that whenever he was in Lucknow he made sure that his guests arranged a session, or even more, of music.

EVALUATION WORK
THE ENTIRE system of evaluating answer sheets of High School and Intermediate of UP Board calls for evaluation. Except for the remuneration amount, there have been no review or changes in the system for the last 25 years. For instance, teachers are forced to sit on classroom benches to evaluate copies instead of a proper chair and table, as per the rule. In many cases, teachers are made to evaluate 70 to 80 answer sheets a day against the existing norm of evaluating 45 copies a day.

LU: PAC?s fixed address
LUCKNOW UNIVERSITY does not seem to practise what it preaches. The varsity administration has often said it wants PAC jawans out of the campus. But, now, LU officials are making their stay comfortable. So much so, that the varsity has constructed five lavatories and three toilets for them to ensure that departmental toilets are spared by the security men. This is despite the fact that the varsity does not have an adequate number of toilets for its 35,000 students.

Also, a number of centres made for the board examination are sans adequate infrastructure and in a few cases boundary walls are not there.
