Delhi HC sets up expert committee to assess medical infra in city

The Delhi High Court has formed a committee of experts to assess the medical infrastructure of state-run hospitals in the city and propose ways to optimize resources. The committee will focus on the availability of ICU beds with ventilator facilities, the functioning of emergency numbers, and the availability of medicine, consumables, and manpower. The committee has been given four weeks to submit an interim report and will then submit monthly reports. The court emphasized the need for significant investments and structural reforms in government hospitals to overcome years of neglect and apathy. Delhi's health minister admitted to a shortage of doctors, paramedics, and medicines, as well as non-functional radiological equipment, and suggested implementing a public-private partnership model for radiological tests.

Delhi HC reprimands MCD for failure to pay salaries

The Delhi high court criticized the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for failing to pay salaries and pensions to employees and warned of consequences, including winding it up. The court emphasized that the payment of basic wages was a statutory obligation and urged the MCD to rectify its financial situation. The Delhi high court rejected a plea to protect two religious structures in Sanjay Van, stating that Delhi already has enough temples and dargahs. The court emphasized the need to restore the forest and remove unauthorized constructions on public land for the betterment of society and to combat pollution. The plea was made by a promoter of Delhi's history who expressed concerns about the demolition of the structures. The court disposed of the plea, stating that the structures declared as a part of national heritage or protected by a statutory authority will not be demolished.
