Punjab and Haryana HC bench of justice Sanjay Vashisth observed that the petitioner has failed to satisfy the court that what kind of justice he is providing to his first wife. The court recorded that the petitioner’s lawyer was not able to give a satisfactory answer as to why the earlier wife was not associated with the proceedings.

High court to examine legal sanctity of Akal Takht ‘hukamnamas’

The high court bench of justice Sandeep Moudgil passed the order after the counsel of a complainant of an FIR registered for hurting religious sentiments had submitted before court that as per the ‘hukamnama’ issued, it is only Guru Granth Sahib which is to be worshipped as sole Guru and it was on that account that the FIR was registered by the Amritsar police.

Ranjit Sagar dam project: Job to oustee a concession not vested right, says high court

The Punjab and Haryana high court has ruled that a job offer to someone whose land has been acquired for a project is "a concession and not a vested right". The court said the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, does not require the acquiring authority or project beneficiary to guarantee employment for those ousted from their homes or land. The ruling came in response to 107 petitions from people removed from their land to make way for the Ranjit Sagar dam project, which involved the acquisition of 11,250 acres in Punjab, 1,226 acres in Himachal Pradesh and 13,820 acres in erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir.

SC reservation: 2% job quota for Vimukat Jatis, Bazigars to prevail in Punjab, says HC

Deciding a clutch of petitions pending since 2013, the high court bench of justice Anil Kshetarpal observed that “the crystal clear policy instructions shall prevail over the contradictory stands taken by the government officials, in the peculiar facts of individual cases.”

The instructions were issued under Article 162 of the Constitution by the Punjab government, according to which the state has the power to issue instructions in the exercise of its executive powers.

HC: Put troublemakers in jail till Jalandhar temple body polls

The Punjab and Haryana high court has ordered that any member who interferes with the election process of a prominent temple in Jalandhar, be taken into preventive custody and kept in jail until completion. The court has appointed three high court lawyers to conduct the election within two months, after no election was held since 2009 due to infighting in the committee. The court has also directed that no court or authority would entertain any suit, petition or representation regarding the issue.
