HC quashes FIR against NRI woman accused of abandoning her husband

The HC bench of justice Deepak Gupta observed that even if it be assumed that all the expenses for coaching, training, tickets or expenses required for living in Australia were incurred by the husband, the same do not “prima facie make out a case of cheating, as the amount was spent by a husband on his wife”. An FIR was registered by one Amandeep Singh of Sangrur in March 2020 for cheating and criminal conspiracy against NRI wife, Rajwinder Kaur and her father Gurtej Singh. They got married in 2014 and she went to Australia in 2018.

Mohali trash hill: HC seeks affidavits from MC chief, local bodies secy

The Punjab and Haryana high court has ordered Mohali municipal corporation to provide personal affidavits on waste disposal measures in the city. The court also directed the corporation to address issues raised by the Punjab Pollution Control Board and ensure no financial troubles in taking remedial measures. The court expressed concern over the corporation's lack of compliance and indolence in waste management. The corporation has been given suggestions for remedial measures at the Phase-8B dumping site.

The court also directed the MC chief that the issues raised by Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) member secretary in his report, be dealt with “most promptly” within 45 days. (HT File)

HC acquits Muktsar man awarded death for drowning wife, children

The allegations were that convict Palwinder Singh and Karamjit Kaur had an illicit relationship and planned the murder, in which a car driven by Palwinder fell into Gang canal near Fattanwala village on June 20, 2015, in which his wife Sarabjit Kaur, daughter Gaganpreet Kaur, son Jashanpreet Singh and Karamjit’s husband Nirmal Singh, a servant of the family, were killed

Lone survivor in the case was Palwinder Singh, who nine months after the incident was booked for murder after he married Karamjit, wife of his servant Nirmal Singh.

HC grants bail to pregnant woman in drugs seizure cases

The court observed that although the woman is alleged to have been found in possession of the contraband falling in commercial category but pregnancy of a woman is a special circumstance, in which the gravity of the offence for the time being is liable to be ignored

Single NRI Australian father gets custody of surrogate child

The high court bench of justice Anupinder Singh Grewal ordered that the single NRI father would be the sole guardian of the child. The HC bench said the father will have custody of the child and would further decide whether the boy will remain in India or Australia.

The court observed that when the issue for consideration before the court involves the rights of a child, the court has parens patriae (parent of the nation) jurisdiction and it is of paramount importance for this court to safeguard the interest of the child, keeping in view his welfare and issue necessary directions in this regard.

Non-appearance of cops in drug trials: Charges framed but over 16,000 NDPS cases pending for more than two years in Punjab

The report signed by state administrative secretary (home) Gurkirat Kirpal Singh was prepared following directions of the high court on October 17. It was to be submitted on October 31, but the case could not be taken up on the said date and would be considered on November 16.

As per the state DGP’s submissions in the high court, Punjab records 12,000 to 14,000 FIRs under the NDPS Act every year.
