Magisterial probe ordered into Gurdaspur jail clash

Speaking over the phone, Gurdaspur DC Aggarwal said, “The inquiry will be carried out by the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM, Gurdaspur). He is looking into the reason behind the clash and the persons responsible for it. He will also give suggestions to prevent such incidents in future. I have asked him to complete the inquiry within a week and submit the report.”

6 years on, ‘shaheedi gallery’ to open for devotees on March 9

Sikh clergy led by Akal Takht jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh will inaugurate the gallery in the presence of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami and other religious personalities, said a spokesman of Damdami Taksal.

The gallery has been set up by Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal in the basement of the Operation Bluestar memorial or ‘Shaheedi Yaadgar’ established in 2013 in the form of small gurdwara amid a row over putting up the picture of slain militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who was killed during the operation carried out by the army to flush out the militants from the Golden Temple in June 1984. For the presidential post, a total 397 votes were polled. With 247 votes, Dr Nijjar defeated his contender and former IRS officer Surinderjit Singh Pal by 97 votes. The election was also held for two posts of vice-presidents, two honorary secretaries and one resident president.

Darshan asthan facelift in Dera Baba Nanak: Devotees can now use high-range binoculars for darshan across Pak border

Dhami re-elected SGPC president for third term

Of the total polled 137 votes, Dhami bagged 118, his opponent Balbir Singh Ghunas bagged 17 while two votes were cancelled. The election session was conducted at the SGPC headquarters Teja Singh Samundri Hall. Of the total 152 members, 137 attended it. The opposition fielded Ghunas but its vote percentage dipped in comparison to last year when its candidate and three times president Jagir Kaur got 42 votes of the total 146.
