U.P. govt launches fresh search for new legislature cum secretariat building

The Uttar Pradesh government is searching for a suitable land site to build a new legislature cum secretariat building due to space constraints. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wants a large building to accommodate both houses of the state legislature and all the offices in the secretariat buildings. The government is exploring various options, including land in Vrindavan Yojana and near Nehru Enclave. A preliminary study has been allocated ₹50 crore in the state's budget for 2023-2024.

Cong to review Dalit Gaurav Samvad progress on Oct 19

The Congress had launched the nearly one-and-a-half-month-long Dalit Gaurav Samvad on BSP founder Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary on October 9. It will continue till the Constitution Day on November 26. The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) has convened a meeting of all its district presidents at the headquarters here on Thursday to review the progress, take feedback and ensure appropriate corrective measures.

UP govt to honour officers and employees on retirement

Uttar Pradesh’s OBC population estimated at over 50%

OBCs in Uttar Pradesh estimated to be over 50% of state's population, according to data from the Hukum Singh committee set up in 2001. Yadavs are the largest OBC caste with 19.40% share. There is a demand for a caste census.

Though no authentic data of a caste wise break of the OBC population was available after the 1931 Census, Uttar Pradesh’s then minister for parliamentary affairs Hukum Singh-led committee in 2001 had worked out 7.56 crore as the population of 79 OBCs in the state, based on family registers (maintained in rural areas). Decision on site for new Uttar Pradesh legislature building likely soon

Minister for parliamentary affairs Suresh Khanna also said the state government is in the process of selection of a site for the new building though he did not give any timeframe for completing the process.

Various options that are likely to be considered for the new state legislature building include the Darul Shafa area around the Lok Bhavan that houses the chief minister’s office. The area being occupied by the Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Zoological Gardens in Hazratganj may provide another option once the zoo is shifted.
