CM writes to EC for early poll

CHIEF MINISTER Mulayam Singh Yadav has requested the Election Commission to hold the Vidhan Sabha election by February 2007. In a letter in this regard to the EC, the CM has said that as the 14th Vidhan Sabha was constituted on February 26, 2002, the poll process should be completed before the five-year period.

Mulayam raises pitch for early poll

CHIEF MINISTER Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday asserted that his government favoured an early Vidhan Sabha election ? before February 2007 ? and would soon send a request to the Election Commission in this regard. He claimed Governor TV Rajeswar had recommended dismissal of his government and imposition of President?s rule in Uttar Pradesh. ?We do not want to stretch the term of the House beyond five years,? the chief minister said.

Raj Bhawan on back foot

IF SUPREME Court observations are any indication, the Allahabad High Court has had the last laugh in the Raj Bhawan-High Court standoff over the transfer and suspension of the Governor?s additional legal advisor Pradeep K Dubey. The Supreme Court?s order has put the Raj Bhawan on the back foot. The Governor is now left with no option but to relieve Dubey. The Allahabad High Court had transferred Dubey as additional district judge Ballia and subsequently placed him under suspension for non-compliance of transfer orders.
