Maharashtra is facing a shortage of Indian Forest Service (IFS) officers at senior levels, with three tiger reserves and three territorial ranges lacking directors and chief officers respectively. Forest officials attribute the scarcity to low IFS officer intake in the 1990s. The current sanctioned strength of IFS officers is 206, but there are only around 150 officers in the state. The Supreme Court has directed the assembly speaker to begin hearings on disqualification petitions against Shiv Sena MLAs next week. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved the construction of a 9.23-km-long corridor connecting Coastal Road with Eastern Freeway. Larsen & Toubro has been chosen as the contractor for the project, which is estimated to cost ₹77.65 billion ($1.05 billion).
