Actor Saqib Saleem says he was not born into this industry, so he wants to do different films but not for the heck of it.

Actor Saqib Saleem takes pride in having carved a niche without a godfather backing him in Bollywood. “I’m a Delhi boy who has made my way to Mumbai to find my own work. I won’t cry or crib that I wasn’t born into the industry. I want to do films where people will appreciate my performance even after 20 years down the line,” he says.

Actor Saqib Saleem was last seen in John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer Dishoom (2016).

The 28-year-old is clear he wants to take up different kind of films. “But not those that are different just for the heck of it. The idea is when people see me, they can relate to the character and not with me. They should feel that character from their heart, so I want to keep it very real,” says the actor, who has done films such as Mere Dad Ki Maruti, Bombay Talkies (2013) and Dishoom (2016).

Is there a plan of action that he sticks to for success? “I don’t plan too many things. I go by my instinct. I read and hear scripts, and if something excites me, I go for it,” says Saqib. Talking about his ‘slow and steady’ approach when it comes to signing films, the actor adds that he can’t afford making mistakes. “I’m not looking at short term gains. I believe it’s a very long race where everybody is running and I just want to be consistent. (Also) I don’t belong to this industry, so the chances I get to prove myself are very few, and if I get those wrong, nobody would want to work with me. So I have to be sure of the films I take up. I just want to focus on good acting. I want to live as a film star,” he says.
