After producing Page 3 Bobby Pushkarna has veered towards direction. His debut venture will be shown at Cannes under Short Film category tonight. The film stars Hemwant Tiwary, as the protagonist. Sweta Kaushal caught up with the actor who is in India.

Hemwant Tiwary is a familiar face in Mumbai's theatre circles. The years spent in struggle are about to bear fruit. Hemwant Tiwary plays the lead in Bobby Pushkarna's short film Zindagi Bahut Khoobsurat Hai. The film was selected in Short Film category for 66th Cannes Film Festival. And it screens tonight.

Hemwant was born in Rai, Jharkhand to an army officer. Owing to his father's job he saw several parts of the country and changed schools often. Right from his Growing up he watched several Charlie Chaplin films. At a very young age he confessed to his father: "I want to become Charlie Chaplin."

When Bob Pushkarna approached Hemwant to act in his debut directorial venture Zindagi Bahut Khoobsurat Hai, Hemwant says he fell in love with the script. The actor said, "I was also involved in the pre-production stage of the film."

Salim-Sulaiman composed the background score for the 20-minutes-long film. Written and produced by Bobby's wife Kavita Pushkarna, the film charts a day in a man's life. Tiwary plays this character which transforms from intensely negative to positively happy. The film also captures life of man-on-the-street in Mumbai. From Dhobi Ghat, Haji Ali, Victoria Terminal Railway Station to Saat Raasta and Arabian Sea, the film explores many moods of the maximum city.

After school he joined a call center to save some money for his dreams. He trained at Barry John's Academy. Hemwant has featured in The Diamond Story with director Asif Ali Beig, Kennedy Bridge with director Khalid Mohammed, The Alchemist with director Mahesh Dattani.

Besides theater commercial ads also constitute his resume - Indigo Airlines was one such.
