Max Verstappen was quoted as the fastest driver of the modern era but Eddie Irvine’s still mentioned Lewis as the top one. Compared to other seasons, Red Bull and Verstappen have been most competitive in respect to their previous performance and are in the running for the top position this season.

Former F1 driver Eddie Irvine was one of the best drivers of his time with four wins, 26 podiums, and overall 191 career points. In his recent interview he made some strong but reliable statements about the current 2021 Formula 1 season. The whole discussion, however, revolved around the upcoming stars of Formula 1- Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen is in his best form and has got his act together. Although he has always been super-fast, the dominance and hunger shown by him and his team this season are indomitable. Other drivers even in his team couldn’t even get as close to him as he is on the racetrack, precisely could be called the Michael Schumacher effect. At the same time, Lewis has been an over performer as always and still has the statistical growth to his career with minimal weak spots.

Another possible reason for the high competitiveness between Hamilton and Verstappen is the heated arguments and comments they have lashed out at each other during the previous press conferences. This race might turn out to be more than just a competitive race and might have stooped down to a personal level for both of them.

The second drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez stand a very little chance of being number one as Verstappen has shown down Perez, and the game is over for him. Hamilton shows more form despite Bottas beating him in the past.

In the further questions, Irvine talked about how the pressure for the title had been immense and how the load of 500-600 people working in your factory is dependent on you for getting the results. Each driver has his team looking up to him to get the results of their hard work, which makes the race even more stressful.

In the ‘99 race, Irvine accepted the fact that he was under more pressure than ever as it was his only shot at him, and his team had got too close at the World Championship. But that’s what the racers are paid for, Irvine added.

Irvine then mentioned his time in the racing world with Michael Schumacher, a pure talent of his time. Schumacher was Irvine’s favorite, as they never had anything but good faith in each other. The four years at Ferrari with Schumacher was an honor for Irvine as he stood by the greatest driver of all time, and no competitor could even make their presence on the stage with Schumacher driving on the racetrack.

Irvine Summing up his interview, talked about the exposure Formula 1 has got through Netflix’s Drive to Survive and Channel 4’s coverage. The popularity and the fun of the sport have increased with more people from Europe, the Bahamas, and the US watching them race. Netflix has done a 10/10 job in making the show, and no doubt has done justice to the sport.
