US scuttled gas pipeline with India: Iran minister

Blaming the United States for scuttling the Indo-Iran gas pipeline project, senior Iran official and former oil minister Mohammad Aliabadi on Tuesday said his country was still willing to revive the plan.

In Patiala for the Kabbadi World Cup, where he was the chief guest, Abadi said: “It’s the pressure that ended the project. US did not want this gas pipeline. Price issue can be sorted out anytime. But the real issue is that US is working against the interest of India and Iran.”

“The project was moving smoothly, but I feel due to pressure on the countries concerned, this project could not take final shape, as was planned,” Abadi said.

Abadi, however, did not elaborate how US pressure ended the Indo-Iran pipeline project. He said the US was also creating hurdles in Iran’s cooperation with south Asian countries.
