The UT education department has set July 1 as the deadline for all government schools to set up science park in their respective school premises.
To take science out of classrooms and make learning a fun exercise for students, director of public instructions (DPI) (schools) Kamlesh Kumar has directed all government school principals to construct science parks till the respective finalised date.
Moreover, according to the officials, the department was mulling to make principal of Government High School, Sector 37, Raj Bala incharge of the project.
Confirming the news, the director of public instructionsstated, “We have asked the schools to complete the science park within the deadline and, moreover, we might appoint Bala to head the project as she had done it in her previous school in Sector 53 within limited sources available with them then.”
It is important to mention here that Government High School, Sector 53, is the only government school in the city to have such facility so far.
Kamlesh said, “With the setting up of this park, the students can learn various concepts faster. “
He added, “If not the replica of the Sector 53 school, they should use their own creativity to build the park taking some idea from there.”
The science park at Government High School, Sector 53, showcases various models and techniques of science and mathematics, including periscope, rain gauge, anemometer to measure wind speed, models on multiple reflections, periodic table and models based on friction.
Raj Bala said, “Each principal is capable enough to make science project in their school, using their own creativity. If any of those approach me for help, I will be keen enough to lend my support.”
Bala added, “It is a good initiative taken by the education department as students, who fear science and mathematics, will also enjoy studying them.”
Earlier, the DPI said he would give `20,000 to each government school for the construction of the park.
According to the sources, government teachers in recent past made a visit to one of the city’s missionary school to see their science park.
