The school, running in a prefabricated structure, has been fenced with barbed wires at the backside and wire mesh at the front and along the sides.
The school has been painted red, usual look of all government schools in the UT.
The entire school building has been cleaned, including the floors that have been mopped meticulously. Now the school students can study in a neat and clean environment as all classrooms have been painted well. When HT had reported the issue two days ago, there was no boundary wall at the school and the area was surrounded by wild vegetation. After the HT report on sorry state of affairs at the school - where around 2,800 students were being forced to study in most hazardous conditions - the officials concerned swung into action. Even high-ranking officials have also been visiting the school regularly, so as ensure the mess is cleared before the adviser’s visit.
During a visit on Sunday, HT found the senior wing of the school, where there is a temple too, was spruced up, and teachers and students were seen cleaning the premises.
A teacher said, “We have been working to clear the mess for the past three days. Since there is not much time left before the adviser’s visit, we will be working till late today.”
Adhering to the director of public instructions guidelines, the school authorities have installed the ceiling fans, biometric machines and tubelights at the temple premises.
A source claimed the teachers had even contributed funds for the renovation of the school.
“We have collected around Rs 1 lakh for the renovation, though the department has assured us to provide the funds later,”added the source.
The work of dismantling the toilets on the ground floor was in progress till late Sunday evening. Taking cognizance of the pathetic conditions of the three toilets on the ground floor, officials had ordered to demolish these structures as there was not much time left with the department to renovate them.
In order to check the work progress, deputy director of public instructions (schools), Saroj Mittal, also visited the school on Sunday.
When asked about the school students and teachers being made to work as labourers, a senior official said the necessary action would be taken after probing the matter. “You can’t make students work like labourers. Since the matter pertains to children’s welfare, a necessary action will be taken,” added the officer.
