It was a day of excitement and disappointment for parents who participated in the draw of lots for Classes nursery to UKG in four convent schools of the city on Saturday.
The draw of lots were held at around 3 pm at these four convent schools — St Anne’s, Sector 32; Carmel Convent, Sector 9, Sacred Heart, Sector 26; and St John’s High School, Sector 26.
Parents of wards, who got selected through these draw of lots, were seen sharing the good news with their family and friends through mobile phones.
“I am unable to hold back my tears. My daughter, Aaradhya, has got the admission in Sacred Heart, which was my first choice,”said an ecstatic Anjuman Suri, a parent, and director of physical education, UT.
Many parents were left disappointed. Others returned home due to some documentation problems, and many were seen calling their family members to bring the mandatory entry slips.
“I wanted to secure admission for my daughter in Sacred Heart but, we were not lucky enough. So we have applied in some other schools and hopefully, she will be able to make it,”said Shaival Malhotra, a parent.
Schools, including St John’s, restricted children’s entry on the premises. Only a single parent was allowed in the school, and traffic cops were on their toes, clearing the roads outside these schools due to the heavy footfall.
At St John’s High School, of 160 seats in the UKG, 95 seats went to the general category students, while the rest of the seats went to the reserved category and the economically weaker section (EWS) category. Five students were on the waiting list.
