With an aim to ease proess at the Registration and Licensing Authority (RLA) office here, authorities are mulling introducing dealer-point registration programme for vehicle buyers.

Under the initiative, buyers will be able to directly get their vehicles registered with the dealer from whom they purchase the vehicle. This will help them to avoid standing in the long queues at the RLA premises to get the task done.

Confirming the news, Kashish Mittal, registration and licensing authority, said “Work is on to start such a programme in the city, and soon we will be implementing it.”

He also added the proposal was already sent to the National Informatics Centre for the implementation of the plan.

“The facility will be introduced soon. While it will streamline the functioning at the RLA office, people will no longer need to stand in long queues and only dealers will be responsible for the same,”said Mittal.

It has been learnt that the step has been taken after the programme was successfully introduced in Haryana and Punjab.

“As our neighbours - Punjab and Haryana - have introduced it already and they have also got good response for the programme, we have also decided to introduce dealer-registration points,”he added.

According to the sources in the RLA, with the introduction of the new programme, the government might face some trouble regarding the revenue collection.

“If the programme is introduced in the city on the same terms as in other states, there could be some problems for the government. Due to very nominal fine on a dealer, they usually tend to visit the RLA only when they pool up large number of vehicle registration, and till then, they block the money, which ultimately affects the government functioning.”
