Bengaluru Bandh Updates: Farmers and pro-Kannada groups are observing a bandh today to protest Cauvery water release to Tamil Nadu.

Bengaluru Bandh LIVE Updates: The Karnataka capital has been witnessing a city-wide bandh today in protest of the release of Cauvery water to neighbouring state Tamil Nadu. Farmers, opposition party members and pro-Kannada groups came together to protest.

Pro-Kannada activists call strike successful

A wider bandh across the state has been called on Friday. The Cauvery river water dispute between the two southern states has been going on for decades. The issue flared up recently after an order from the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) asking Karnataka to release 5000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu.

Now, the CWRC has asked Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water everyday from September 28 till October 15. Read more here

The bandh has evoked a partial response as auto drivers, KSRTC, BMTC and other transport corporations ran their operations as per usual. However, schools, colleges and other educational institutions were closed, along with restaurants, shops and other establishments. Bus services were also hit in border districts.

    Karnataka expresses satisfaction over Cauvery regulation body rejecting TN's request
