Karnataka Congress working president R Dhruvanarayana dies after 'chest pain'
KPCC working president R Dhruvanarayana passed away early on Saturday morning after suffering from chest pain. He was 61.
Karnataka Congress working president and former MP R Dhruvanarayana passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 61. He had complained of chest pain and was brought to the DRMS Hospital in Mysuru at around 6:40 am by his driver. However, he did not survive, a doctor at the hospital told reporters.
“R Dhruvanarayana passed away. He suffered chest pain and his driver picked him up at 6:40 am. But he didn't survive,” Dr Manjunath told news agency ANI.
Condolences poured in on social media and elsewhere, with several notable figures including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge expressing their condolences.
Remembering the late leader, CM Bommai said he was a soft-spoken person and a voice of the state in parliament. Bommai also announced that the Congress leader will be given a funeral with full state honours.
"He [Dhruvanarayana] was great and a soft-spoken leader. He always stood for the people of his constituency. He had an immense knowledge to discuss various issues and had been a voice of Karnataka in the parliament, his demise is a great loss to the state," he said.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also condoled Dhruvanayana's demise and called it a huge loss to the party. "Saddened by the sudden demise of former MP, Shri R Dhruvanarayan. A hard-working & humble grassroots leader, he was a champion of social justice who rose through the ranks of NSUI & Youth Congress. His passing is a huge loss to the Congress party. My condolences to his family," Rahul Gandhi tweeted.
Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala also wrote, "No words can describe the irreparable loss of our ever-smiling friend, our leader & easily the most dedicated foot soldier of Congress, Sh. Dhruvanarayan. Dedicated to the cause of the poor, an avid champion of downtrodden, we will miss u forever my friend. RIP," he tweeted.
“Deeply anguished & pained by the passing away of R Dhruvanarayana. He was not just a grassroots political, but the finest human being. His demise is not just the loss for @INCIndia, but a huge personal loss for me as well. My thoughts are with his family and followers,” Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said.
