The Congress party shared photos of the senior leader sharing some laughs and ice cream along with AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar and other party leaders. They first dined at the Gajalee seafood restaurant and later visited Pabba's ice cream in Mangaluru for dessert.

“Yesterday, after a day filled with excitement & productivity, what better way to unwind than by indulging in some delicious food & ice cream with your team?” the party tweeted.

“That's precisely what Shri @RahulGandhi did, accompanied by Org Secy Shri @kcvenugopalmp, KPCC President Shri @DKShivakumar & other senior party leaders & dedicated party workers as they dined at the renowned Gajalee seafood restaurant & savoured the sweet delights of Pabba's ice cream in Mangaluru.”

Rahul Gandhi had held a rally in Mangaluru and later interacted with the fisherfolk community in Udupi on Thursday. He announced the Congress party's fifth poll guarantee that all women can travel in public transport buses for free if the party comes to power in Karnataka. He also promised 10 lakh insurance cover to fishermen.

The Congress leader also won hearts when he refused to enter a temple in the area after having touched fish. During his meet and greet with the fisherfolk community in Udupi, locals had gifted him Indo-Pacific king mackerel, also called the “Anjal” fish. Soon afterwards, he visited a nearby temple where he refused to enter, but offered prayers from the outer part of the premises.

A video shared online showed him informing the temple priest that he has touched a fish. This came in the backdrop of several controversies over leaders in Karnataka, including former CM Siddaramaiah and BJP's National General Secretary CT Ravi, entering temples after allegedly having consumed “non-vegetarian food”.
