The exams for optional subjects began on February 15 while the compulsory subjects’ exam started on February 17. The number of centres in the district was reduced from 35 to 30, and the rush of parents was witnessed outside centres, including Kundan Vidya Mandir (KVM), Guru Nanak Public School, and BCM Arya School.

Teachers and students said all the exams were balanced without any hiccups. Minakshi Sharma, who appeared for exam at KVM said the exam was moderate and scoring. Students who have a fair hold on basic concepts and have done practice could comfortably attempt the exam, she added.

Another student, Gurjeet, 15, said he feels a lot relieved as maths is among the toughest subjects. He added that he is hopeful to score good marks.

The exams for Class 12 in which 14,591 students are appearing, will conclude on April 5. AP Sharma, CBSE coordinator for the district, said students do not need to feel stressed about their subject choices.

Over the years the craze for many sought-after streams, including medical, has declined and new updates in the education policy have given students liberty and promote multidisciplinarity.

He added that through a recent notification the CBSE has conveyed to the schools that the session should be started from April 1 onwards after it was found that some schools have started their academic sessions early.
