Young golfers making tricity proud
Young golfers in Chandigarh share their journey in the sport, with some starting as young as two years old and training under experienced coaches.
With May being celebrated as Golf Month to encourage people to take up the sport, we speak to city-based young golfers about their journey.

Nihaal Cheema, 6
I started playing golf at the age of two. My father, Udai Cheema plays the sport and that’s how I first took interest in it. He got me a yard club and we would practice together during the lockdown. Now, I’m being trained by Jesse Grewal sir and Sarvar Hussain sir at the Chandigarh Gold Club. What I enjoy the most is competing in different tournaments.
Ojaswini Saraswat, 10
I started playing golf when I was three-and-a-half year old. Our house is near the Mohali Golf Range, so when I saw people playing there, it piqued my interest and my parents motivated me to join the sport. I’m training under coach Harmeet Kahlon, and he says that I have the potential to win a medal for the country in the Olympics, which is really encouraging. I love the small motivations and wins in the game the most.
Rabab Kahlon, 11,and Gairat Kaur Kahlon, 7
We come from a non-golfing family but our parents motivated us to take up some sport. We tried out skating and basketball for some time. But it was a golf camp at the Mohali range that finally showed us our path ahead. We had a lot of fun at the camp so we requested our parents to let us take up golf and the rest is history. Apart from the game, what we love the most is getting to travel to lots of interesting and new places.
