Issuing fresh statement on the operation against Waris Punjab De Chief Amritpal Singh, the Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Tuesday said the “governments must initiate talk with the Sikhs” to find amicable solution of their issues, if they want to stablise Punjab.
In a video message, he said, “I feel the governments are creating an atmosphere of terror without any reason. Internet was suspended. This is why the rumours are influencing the people and we are not getting accurate information. Efforts are being made to destabilise Punjab”.
“Such kind of unfair politics was played some decades ago by the then Centre and state governments. As a result, Sikhs and Punjab bore huge loss. Same game is again being played. Such kind of acts are being practiced to harm Sikhs and Punjab on large scale and brighten the dirty politics,” said Giani Harpreet Singh.
The jathedar said, “Even Sikh youths of 16-17-year age are being detained by the Police. It is very necessary to stablise Punjab because it is a border state. If the government wants to stabilise Punjab, it must sit with the Sikhs for negotiation and resolve their issues. Neither Punjab nor India stays calm by creating such kind of terror. If the government wants peace in this region, it must refrain from the dirty politics. Both state and Centre should find amicable solution of these issues”.
“Massive crackdown on the Sikh youths must be stopped, because their parents are worried, as they are getting improper information. The governments, especially Punjab government must clear the air about what is happening in the state, that it is not doing”, he added.
Meanwhile, Baba Avtar Singh Sursingh, chief of influential Nihang organisation ‘Dal Panth Baba Bidhi Chand’, appealed him to lead with the community to tackle with such situation and give call for it. “Entire Panth will support this call”, he added.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal Senior leader Virsa Singh Valtoha on Tuesday asked Punjab government to immediately withdraw National Security Act (NSA) imposed on arrested Sikh youth under ongoing crackdown in the state and innocent Sikh youth should be released immediately.
Addressing a press conference here, Valtoha said that it was shocking to see that Punjab Police has registered cases against Sikh youth under NSA on instructions from Punjab government and have sent them to central jail Dibrugarh in Assam.
