A Taran Tarn native, who is member of a gang that steals Royal Enfield motorcycles from the tricity, has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police. A total of eight Royal Enfield motorcycles were recovered from the accused, Samander Singh. The gang’s kingpin Amritpal and his accomplice Sukhpreet are absconding.

Chandigarh A habitual offender named in 15 cases was caught with a stolen motorcycle on Friday. Police said the accused, Pardeep Kumar, 35, of Sector 27, was caught from the parking lot of Leisure Valley, Sector 10. Police said he had earlier been arrested in over 15 cases of snatching, theft, burglary and dacoity registered since 2012 in different police stations of the city. He was caught with another stolen motorcycle in June as well.

MC organises second ‘zero-waste’ wedding

Chandigarh With the aim to make the city garbage free, the municipal corporation organised the second zero-waste wedding at Sector 35 on Friday night. MC commissioner Anindita Mitra said at the wedding of Pooja and Mukesh, both residents of Attawa, event details were printed only on eco-friendly paper material, and only natural flowers were used for decoration and late composted. Water and food were served in stainless steel utensils procured from MC bartan bhandar, and bio-degradable cups were used for coffee and soft drinks.

Chandigarh’s Rabab shines at golf meet

Chandigarh City’s Rabab Kahlon won the US Kids Indian championship, a four-day event held at ITC Classic Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon recently. On the final day, Rabab, won in category Girls 9-10 by six strokes with a score of one over par 73. More than 100 golfers took part in the tournament.

Sector 11 RWA holds meeting with CRAWFED

Chandigarh The Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) of Sector 11 held a meeting with CRAWFED on Saturday to discuss local issues, including beautification of the sector under the Smart City Mission. CRAWFED chairman Hitesh Puri, along with general secretary Anish Garg, attended the meeting with Indra Pratap Singh, RWA president, and other members at the Community Centre in Sector 11. Singh raised the issue that due to visitors and patients coming to PGIMER, the internal roads of the sector always remained occupied, causing inconvenience to local residents. It was also discussed that most of the shops allotted for items of daily needs and other basic amenities had been converted into medical shops. Hence, residents were forced to visit other sectors. Dr Garg assured to resolve the issues after meeting the authorities concerned.

Kala Utsav concludes

Chandigarh Kala Utsav, an initiative of Union ministry of education, under the scheme Samagra Shiksha, concluded at Chitkara International School, Sector 25, on Saturday. The valedictory function of the five-day event was attended by director school education Harshuhinder Pal Singh Brar. Students presented cultural performances.

GRIID students bring laurels

Chandigarh Abhay and Sahibjeet, students of Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities (GRIID), Sector 31-C, have brought laurels to the institute by getting selected in the Walk With a Difference (WWAD) Audition, 2022. They were among the 30 finalists selected in the audition held in Kolkata from November 12 to 19. WWAD is a social initiative by AIMS Media for persons with disabilities (PwDs) to give a platform for showcasing their talent in areas of art, dance, music and fashion. About 2,200 PwDs from different states of India participated in the audition.

Central Bureau of Communication holds outreach programme

Chandigarh The Central Bureau of Communication, Chandigarh, organised an integrated communication and outreach programme at Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, on Saturday. The theme of the event was Constitution Day, celebrated annually on November 26. Neil Robert from District Legal Authority, Chandigarh, and Dr Balram Gupta, former head, department of law, Panjab University, were the guests of honour. The event started with a programme by the artists empanelled with the bureau. An essay writing competition and quiz competition were also organised.
