Posing as cops, four men kidnap Ludhiana lottery worker

The accused posing as cops threatened the lottery worker saying that if he did not give them money, they would implicate him and his employee in a forged case

Four men, including an NRI, posed as officials from CIA staff and allegedly kidnapped an employee of a lottery trader from his shop and sought 25,000 to release him, police said on Saturday.

The accused threatened the lottery trader that if he did not give them money, they would implicate him and his employee in a forged case, they said.

The lottery trader made a call to the police personnel of the police station concerned, who confirmed that neither they nor any other wing of the department had conducted a raid.

The Division number 7 police arrested two of the accused and rescued the employee, while two other accused are yet to be arrested.

The arrested accused have been identified as Bhawanjit Singh of Bhamian Khurd and Rajveer Singh of Khasi Kalan village, who has a Canadian PR (permanent resident)

The other two, who have not been arrested, are Gautam of Basti Jodhewal and Ankit Sharma of Chhoti Bhamian.

Ganesh of Bal Singh Nagar said that he works at a lottery shop in the same locality and was standing outside and his co-worker Sunny was inside on Friday night when a white colour car stopped outside the shop.

Four men alighted from the vehicle and barged in the shop. They claimed themselves to be staff of the CIA. They picked the cash from the counter and took away Sunny along with them.

Ganesh said that he immediately informed his employer about the incident and gave chase to the car. Meanwhile, the employer informed the police station concerned. After sometime, the accused made a call to his employer and demanded 25,000 to release Sunny.

They also threatened that they will implicate Sunny and him in a case if he did not give money to them. The accused asked him to come outside the office of CIA-II at Tajpur road with the money.

ASI Gurmeet Singh, who is investigating the case, said that they found the accused had parked their cars near the compound wall of the building of the police unit. On seeing the police party, two of the accused managed to escape.

The ASI added that the accused are drug addicts and indulged in crime to meet their need for the drugs. The accused confessed that they had extorted money from some of the lottery traders in a similar way.

ASI said that Rajveer had come to India a couple of weeks ago.

A case under sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC has been registered against them.
