Two students found dead at Ashoka University in Haryana’s Sonepat
Officers said in both cases, they are recording the statements of students and staff
Two students studying at Ashoka University in Sonepat, Haryana were found dead late on Friday night, police officers said.

The first student — from Telangana, who was pursuing his undergraduate degree from the university — allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the 10th floor of the university’s building, police said. The second student, a resident of Bengaluru, was found unresponsive near the university’s main gate, and was rushed to hospital by the varsity’s infirmary team, but was declared dead on arrival.
Sonipat deputy commissioner of police (crime) Narender Kadiyan said investigators recovered a purported suicide note from the room of the first student.
“The note does not provide specific details,” Kadiyan said. “We are not certain whether it is a case of suicide or murder. The post-mortem will give clarity on the cause of death."
Police are also awaiting the autopsy report to determine the exact cause of the second student’s death.
Officers said in both cases, they are recording the statements of students and staff, and are probing the personal, academic, and social aspects of the lives of both students.
Ashoka University vice-chancellor Somak Raychaudhury in a statement assured the varsity’s full cooperation with the police investigation, and extended condolences to the grieving families.
