Vigilance bureau nabs Ludhiana’s ASI for taking ₹10,000 bribe

The vigilance bureau (VB) on Friday nabbed an assistant sub inspector (ASI) here for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.

ASI Balwinder Singh is posted in police station Tibba in the city.
A VB spokesperson said Balwinder has been arrested on the complaint of Dr Arun Behal, resident of Raju Colony on Tibba road.
He said that the complainant has approached the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of VB, Ludhiana and alleged that the police official has demanded ₹10,000 as a bribe to help him in getting a bail in a police case registered against him.
The spokesperson informed that a VB team from EOW Ludhiana range laid a trap and the accused police official was arrested on the spot while taking a bribe of ₹10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused ASI at VB police station, Ludhiana range.
It is the second such incident in the past three days when a police personnel was arrested. Earlier on Wednesday, the Shimlapuri police arrested ASI Jarnail Singh, incharge at police post Basant Park for releasing a drug peddler after accepting ₹70,000 as bribe from his kin.
