The woman was dragged from under the bed by the accused before being shot, says the victim’s husband
The 22-year-old woman, who was shot dead by his brother for marrying against her family’s wishes, suffered four bullet injuries on her head and face, the autopsy has revealed.
The bullets pierced through the head of the woman, suggesting that the accused had shot her from a point-blank range, according to the postmortem report.
A board of three doctors, including Dr Charan Kanwal Singh, Dr Harpreet Singh and Dr Aditya, had conducted the postmortem.
According to the husband of the victim, the woman was dragged from under the bed by the accused and shot at point-blank range in the face.
The woman’s 25-year-old husband was injured after he was shot in the face and shoulder.
The police arrested the accused and recovered an illegal .32-bore pistol and 21 bullets from his possession. Eighteen empty shells were recovered from the crime spot
The accused was produced before the court on Monday and was remanded to the accused for three days in police custody for questioning.
The victim’s husband, in his complaint, stated that on Saturday night, when he was standing outside his house, the accused came there on a bike and opened fire at him. Two bullets hit him in his face and shoulder. He rushed inside to save himself.
He said that the accused barged in the house searching for his wife, who had already hidden under the bed to save herself. The accused dragged her outside and pumped four bullets in her face. The accused searched for him in the house as he hid in the other room.
Sub-inspector Ashwani Kumar, who is investigating the case, said that the accused was planning the murders since his sister had eloped and got married to the man who was an employee of her father, a realtor and financier.
The couple eloped on June 21 and got married on June 29. They changed their location following threats from the victim’s family and returned to city a week ago, said the ADCP.
The police are questioning from where he had procured the weapon.
Criminal background of the family
The accused’s father is also facing murder charges. In February 2014, his father along with a head constable Parminder Singh, a home guard Deepak Kumar and their aides was booked by PAU police for kidnapping a man and thrashing him to death over suspicion of stealing cattle.
The accused along with his aides had thrashed a man Harsimranpreet Singh of Golden Avenue of Hambran road in March 2022 following a school-time rivalry. A case under sections 323 and 325 of the IPC was lodged against the accused.
