Both have been working at the head office of a financial firm in Sector 44 for the past six months.

Preet Pal Sangwan, assistant commissioner of police (crime-I), said investigations revealed that Jangra was fond of weapons. “He told police that he had kept an illegal country-made pistol at his rented accommodation in Sector 44,” he said.

The ACP said both Jangra and Singh clashed over chairs on Tuesday as well as Wednesday morning soon after coming to office.

“After Wednesday’s clash, both were terminated from their office after which the suspect rushed home and returned with a pistol to shoot Singh who was on his way home,” ACP Sangwan said.

Police said they had taken Jangra on remand for further interrogation. “Till now, no criminal antecedents of the suspect had surfaced before us. We are also trying to ascertain when and from whom he had purchased the pistol,” the ACP said.

ACP Sangwan said on Tuesday, Jangra had come to office even though it was his weekly off and had found Singh seated on his office chair which had resulted in an altercation. “The next day, Singh saw Jangra seated on his chair which again resulted in an altercation followed by a scuffle,” he said.

Meanwhile, Singh’s elder brother Mohit, quoting doctors, said a small part of his right lung was removed as it was damaged due to the bullet injury. “He had gained consciousness. However, he is still in the ICU,” he said.

Mohit said when his brother was waiting on the roadside to catch an autorickshaw, Jangra had walked towards him and kept a hand on his left shoulder.

“My brother thought he had come to settle the dispute but suddenly he pulled out a pistol and shot him in the chest without giving any chance,” Mohit said, adding that police are yet to record his brother’s statement.
