At a time when the chief minister launched Prerna app last month to improve teaching in schools run by basic education department, a government-run primary and junior high school in Kaushambi district has emerged as an example to make every student excel with its innovative teaching.

In a novel initiative to help academically weaker students excel in studies, headmaster of a government-run primary and upper primary school in Laudhana village in Sarsawan block of Kaushambi has introduced special ‘B’ section for students of classes 1 to class 8 equipped with additional teaching learning materials (TLM) along with motivated teachers to guide weak students.

The special section boasts of having globes, computers, laptop, screen and projectors besides other teaching aids to motivate and help these students not just catch up but even outperform their meritorious classmates.

School principal Pankaj Singh said during monthly review meetings, teachers of different classes complained about academically weaker students struggling to catch up with the prescribed syllabus.

“This made me take up the challenge and create a separate ‘B’ section for each class where weak students were shifted without revealing to students the real reason for their shifting as it could create a sense of inferiority among them. I started this on experiment basis last year and it seems to be working as weak students have started responding,” he added.

As per Singh, the school has a total 590 students of which 472 are studying in primary section from class 1 to class 5 while the remaining 118 are in junior high school section from class 6 to 8.

“No child is hopeless and teachers should never lose hope as some students need comparatively more effort than others. A weak student needs more individual attention and more teaching through examples to boost their learning. I will continue with the initiative as it has tremendously enhanced learning in students,” he added.
