Indore's Central Jail gets its own FM radio channel ‘Jail Vaani’

The Central Jail radio channel is called ‘Jail Vaani-FM 18.77’ and will keep inmates informed on the happenings, health issues, entertainment around the world.

In its bid to keep jail inmates abreast about ongoings in the outside world, Central Jail of Indore has got its own radio channel 'Jail Vaani-FM 18.77'.

Through the radio channel, prisoners are hopeful of catching entertainment, while also becoming aware of the happenings around the world. The radio channel will also provide the jail inmates with information on health issues.

"The administration wants jails to be like correctional facilities. Through this radio channel the jail inmates will get to know what is happening in the world," said Alka Sonkar, Jail Superintendent.

Sonkar credited Madhya Chief Minister Shivraj Singh for the initiative. "He is sensitive in this matter, and gave a lot of encouragement. We have started the radio station by taking due permission for this," she added.

    Shocking scenes were witnessed in Delhi when two people- a teenager and a man- were injured after getting attacked by a group of people in the Wazirabad area on Thursday night, police said on Friday. CCTV footage of the attack - shared by news agency ANI - showed the group of around 10 people attacking Jatin, aged 17, and Ajay, aged 42. Jatin and Ajay were injured in the attack, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said.

    Patrolman spots fallen boulder on tracks, stops train on Mumbai-Pune rail route

    An alert patrolman averted an accident by stopping a locomotive along the Mumbai-Pune rail route as it was approaching a fallen boulder on the track in the early hours of Friday. Rail services on the route that had to be temporarily halted but it was restored by 8:15am on Friday morning. Patrolman Motiram Lodhi who was on duty at that time, immediately stopped the approaching locomotive and informed his seniors about the incident.

    Ballari woman sends 900 Rakhis to Indian army on Raksha Bandhan : report

    A 23-year-old woman from Karnataka's Ballari named Vidyasri B has sent 900 rakhis to army personnel stationed at external borders on Raksha Bandhan, The Times of India reported. Vidya reportedly sent these rakhis through an army organisation in Bengaluru, Yodha Namana. Out of 900 rakhis, 300 were sent to soldiers at the Wagah border, 300 to soldiers at the Assam border and 300 to the Border Security Force personnel in Haryana, said the report.

    Shiv Sena slams Shinde govt, says ‘scamsters having a free run’

    The Shiv Sena on Friday slammed Maharashtra's Eknath Shinde-led government for exonerating Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya in a case related to alleged misappropriation of funds raised to save decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Vikrant from getting scrapped. An editorial in Sena's mouthpiece Saamana said that after Shinde, who became the chief minister with BJP's help after rebelling against Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, came to power all “scamsters are having a free run”.
