"Thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rainfall likely to continue over some parts of Kolkata, Howrah, East Medinipur, North 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad and Birbhum districts of West Bengal during next 2-3 hours of today," said India Meteorological Department (IMD) Kolkata.

BSF arrests Chinese national after he entered India through Indo-Bangla border

Punjab gangster Bhullar shifted to Kolkata apartment week after killing 2 cops

Punjab gangsters, Jaipal Singh Bhullar and Jaspreet Jassi, shifted into the apartment complex in the eastern outskirts of Kolkata, on May 23, a little over a week after Bhullar and three others killed two Punjab police officers in Ludhiana.

Kolkata: Security personnel deployed at the apartment complex at New Town where two Punjab gangsters, Jaipal Singh Bhullar and Jaspreet Jassi, were shot dead in an encounter with West Bengal special task force personnel. One police inspector was injured in the gunfight. (PTI)

West Bengal planted 50 million mangrove saplings after cyclone Amphan ravaged at least 6 districts, uprooting and damaging thousands of trees in May last. In Kolkata alone, 5,000 trees were uprooted.

Cyclone Yaas coincided with the perigean spring tide and the resulting storm surge devastated the 3 coastal districts in Bengal and the Sunderban delta.
