West Bengal civic polls: Counting of votes today

The polls were held on February 27 with nearly 95 lakh people exercising their franchise to decide the fate of more than 8,000 candidates. The civic body elections were earlier scheduled to take place on January 22 but got delayed due to the worsening Covid-19 situation.

Bengal municipality elections: Repolling in 2 booths held peacefully

CPI(M) youth front, ISF hold protests demanding arrest of Anis Khan’s killers

Anis Khan, 27, a former student of Kolkata’s Aliah University, was allegedly murdered in the early hours of February 19 at his house in Sarda village in the Amta area of Howrah district.

The Left parties and the ISF have been holding protests across Bengal since the alleged murder of Anis Khan. Tuesday’s processions were the biggest that Kolkata witnessed in 10 days. (PTI)

Bengal civic polls: Counting of votes tomorrow

The civic body elections were earlier scheduled to take place on January 22 but got delayed due to the worsening Covid-19 situation across India fuelled by the Omicron variant. Elections were finally held on February 27 with nearly 95 lakh people exercising their franchise to decide the fate of more than 8,000 candidates.

SC refuses MHA offer, rejects BJP plea on central forces for Bengal civic polls

Solicitor general Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, offered to spare central forces for deployment in West Bengal for the civic elections on Sunday, March 27, but the Supreme Court dismissed the BJP petition.

After student leader is killed in Howrah, students block road in Kolkata

Following the incident, students of Aliah University blocked the seven-point Park Circus crossing in Kolkata and took out a candle light march. A scuffle broke out when the protestors tried to break the barricades set up by the police.

Kolkata businessman lynched near city; villagers say they mistook him for a thief

Mukherjee, who lived in the Netaji Nagar area of south Kolkata, rode to Begumpur on his motorbike with his childhood friend, Priyanka Sarkar. She did not suffer any injuries in the incident which took place around 2 am, officers involved in the probe said.
