BJP leader believed dead regains consciousness as family prepares for last rites
BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh declared dead by hospital, but later revived at home; receiving treatment.
BJP leader Mahesh Baghel regained consciousness even as doctors in Agra told family members that nothing more could be done to bring him back to life. Baghel, who earlier showed no sign of life, regained consciousness when his family was preparing for his last rites.

The brother of the former BJP district head said doctors of a local hospital, where Baghel was admitted, had told family members that not much could be done and it was better to take him home. The family members followed doctors' instructions and thought he was dead as he showed no signs of life.
“Family members prepared for last rites but some movement was seen in his body and thus he was admitted to another hospital where he remains in serious condition,” the brother said.
He is said to be diagnosed with a chest infection and receiving treatment for the same. After Baghel's remarkable ‘reviving’ back to life incident, many local BJP leaders gathered at the hospital and prayed for his good health.
Mumbai man found alive in mortuary
In a similar case, a 50-year-old homeless man regained consciousness just before post-mortem at a Mumbai hospital back in 2015. The man, identified as Prakash, was brought to the hospital by policemen who insisted he was dead. He was sent to the mortuary for an autopsy. An attendant at the mortuary realised the man was alive after he detected some movement. The man died two days later at the same hospital.
Lazarus effect
The Lazarus effect or “autoresuscitation” could be behind such cases of reviving back to life. According to Discover Magazine, it happens when a patient usually regains blood flow within 10 minutes of CPR, though there are some cases where patients awake hours later.
