The upcoming Lok Sabha bypoll in Mainpuri is a reminder of misgovernance during Akhilesh Yadav's regime, said the UP deputy chief minister.

Attacking Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav ahead of the Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypoll, Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said Yadav would need 10 more lives to become like Mulayam Singh Yadav, the SP patriarch whose demise necessitated the upcoming byelection.

“It will take him another 10 lives to become like his father,” said Maurya on Sunday while speaking to news agency ANI.

Taking another jibe at the SP chief, Maurya said Akhilesh Yadav became the head of the party by removing his own father from the post.

“…we will always respect him (Mulayam Singh Yadav). However, if Akhilesh Yadav, who became party chief by pushing off his own father from the post, says this election is for Netaji…if Netaji was there, this election would not be needed. The election is not for Netaji, but it is a reminder of the misgovernance during Akhilesh Yadav's regime.”

The veteran politician and former UP chief minister, who passed away in October, was popularly known as Netaji (leader). His son, also a former chief minister, became Samajwadi Party's president in January 2017.
