According to the police, Zine was a resident of Nilam Nagar in Mulund East, where he used to live in a joint family with his wife and two sons and their wives and children.

Zine’s elder son Sunil, 32, who works in a private firm, said that his father used to drop his eight-year-old son at his school — Lakshmibai High School — which is hardly a kilometer away from their house. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when his father was returning home at around 2pm.

Sunil said that after dropping his son at school, his father asked for a lift from an acquaintance, who had gone to the school on a bike to drop his daughter. They knew each other and the person also lives in the same locality. The biker had hardly gone 200 meters from the school when the speeding dumper hit them from behind and crushed Zine to death, said Sunil.

The people, who had gathered at the spot, informed the police after which a patrolling police van reached the spot. One person identified the deceased and provided the phone number of Zine’s younger son.

“Zine was rushed to the nearby civic hospital where he was declared dead before admission. The family of the victim was informed about the accident. The dumper driver Lalchandra Yadav was arrested for allegedly causing death by rash and negligent driving. His dumper has been seized,” said police sub inspector Manisha Jagtap of the Navghar police station.
