MGL slashes CNG price by 8, PNG by 5 in city

Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) has reduced the retail price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by ?8/kg and domestic PNG by ?5/SCM in and around Mumbai. This will benefit the four-lakh four-wheelers private cars running on CNG in the region, which has risen by 13% in the past year. The total CNG vehicular population has now gone over nine lakh.

Man arrested from Gujarat for stealing electronic goods worth 21.6 lakh

On March 30, Aniket Pawar, who is in the transport business, approached the police and said that he had parked a tempo carrying a consignment of mobile phones and accessories to be delivered to an electronics showroom in Bhayandar.

“We have registered a case under section 461 (dishonestly breaking open receptacle containing property) and 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused, who has been remanded to custody. We are now trying to trace Mandal,” said Kadam. (Image for representation)

BMC razes three chimneys in crackdown on polluting units

The BMC has demolished three illegal chimneys emitting toxic fumes near the Nahar Amrit Shakti township in Kurla and issued notices with a 48-hour deadline to close down to 15 factories in a drive to tackle air pollution in Mumbai. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board had directed the BMC to shut down the unauthorised aluminium-melting factories operating without pollution controls. The BMC has initiated action under the Factories Act and has prosecuted eight cases so far. If the factories do not close within 48 hours, further action will be taken.

20 deadly traffic junctions to be redesigned to make them safer

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will redesign 20 of the deadliest traffic intersections in Mumbai with technical assistance from Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) partners to make them safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. The junctions include Amar Mahal, Sion Circle, Kings Circle, National Park, and Priyadarshini, all of which are considered black spots for the high number of accidents reported. The BMC will utilize infrastructure interventions such as widening pedestrian crossings and sidewalks, adding new refuge areas, and implementing traffic calming measures.

After dharna by Golibar women, Siddique assures Bandra East residents of water supply from Friday

Nearly 100 women staged a protest outside the BMC's H/East Ward office in Mumbai's Golibar area, citing irregular water supply over the past few months. The BMC has announced a month-long 15% water cut for the city, adding to the residents' woes. Local MLA Zeeshan Siddique met with the protestors and subsequently held a meeting with officials from the hydraulic department to address the issue. Siddique stated that the situation in Golibar and other parts of Bandra East would improve by the following day.

Four ex-executives booked for causing loss of 1.50-crore to employer

Four former sales executives of Omicron Sensing Pvt Ltd have been accused of violating their contracts, stealing company data and attracting customers by offering discounts from their own start-up. The Parksite police in Mumbai have booked Vishal Bhadkoliya, Nilesh Kansodiya, Pradeep Rathod and Tushar Rathod over allegations that they cost Omicron Sensing INR15m ($204,000) by selling products in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka markets. The four were recruited between April 2015 and April 2017 to handle sales in the three regions, but under their service contract they were not supposed to work elsewhere.

Sharad Pawar cautions Centre against import of milk products

The letter was written in response to the central government’s plan to import milk products such as butter and ghee and do away with low stocks. The animal husbandry secretary Rajesh Kumar has recently said that the country’s milk product has remained stagnant in the last fiscal year owing to lumpy skin disease

Five film studios to be demolished in Madh-Marve

In its order, the NGT stated they found the permission, which was granted in the present case by the BMC in conjunction with the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority, was only for setting up temporary structure for the purpose in question. KEM gets city’s first dedicated casualty service for children

“We have created a four-bed emergency facility within our existing casualty department which will be taken care of by paediatricians,” Dr Sangeeta Ravat, dean, KEM Hospital, said.

Cyber fraud arrested for duping Telangana woman of 72 lakh

Dhaval Mahendra Shah, the alleged mastermind of a job fraud racket in India, has been arrested for cheating people with fake job offers from top companies. Shah was wanted in several states and handed over to the Telangana police for a case in which he duped a woman of ?72 lakh ($98,000) by promising her a job with Microsoft. Shah was a member of a gang that cheated people online by sending emails about high paying positions, conducting fake interviews, and asking for payment.

Man held for capturing videos of women in Sinhagad Express

Passengers on the Sinhagad Express helped the Kalyan GRP arrest a 26-year-old man who had been filming female commuters for three days. Mohammad Ashraf, a teacher at a madrasa, was caught by male passengers, and after an argument, he was handed over to the GRP. The case was subsequently passed to Karjat Railway Police.

“The accused claimed that it is his mobile and he can take pictures and videos of whatever he wants. This led to the argument,” added the officer. “Further, as the angry passengers caught him red-handed, they dropped him at Kalyan station and handed him over to the railway police.” (HT PHOTO)

HC asks NTA to explain the purpose behind 75% marks in HSC for JEE

The Bombay High Court has asked the National Testing Agency to respond to a PIL challenging the requirement of getting 75% marks in HSC exams for appearing for the JEE-Main and explain the purpose of setting the criteria. The PIL claims that the marks scored by the students were not a true reflection of their capabilities and hence sought relaxation of the criterion. The NTA has been asked to file the affidavit within a week, and the hearing has been posted for next week.

Elgar Parishad case: NIA court rejects Gautam Navlakha’s bail plea

The Bombay high court had last month directed the special court to hear Navlakha’s bail plea again after noticing that the previous order, rejecting his bail plea, did not contain proper reasoning and the analysis for the rejection of the plea.

Navlakha was arrested on August 28, 2018, for his alleged involvement in the case. He was released after an order from the Delhi high court on October 1, 2018.
