264 new colleges from 2024-25 session

The Maharashtra government has issued a letter of intent for 264 new colleges under non-agricultural universities, with 82 of them being for women under SNDT Women's University. The aim is to increase women's gross enrolment ratio in higher education from 35.3% to 50% by 2035. The new colleges will offer courses in humanities, commerce, and science.

Vihar Lake to provide 200 million litres more water by 2027

Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation plans to divert excess water from Vihar Lake to curb flooding and increase water supply by 200 million litres by 2027. The project will cost around ₹58 crore, with ₹30 crore allocated in this year's budget. A pumping station will be installed at the lake's shore to transfer the water to the Bhandup water treatment plant. The initiative aims to ease flooding in flood-prone areas and mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall on the Mithi River.

Former Mumbai NCB director Sameer Wankhede will not be arrested in a money laundering case until February 20, according to the ED. The case is based on an FIR alleging Wankhede and others extorted money from actor Shah Rukh Khan. Wankhede is seeking to quash the case, claiming it is motivated by malice.
