Short film by students receive honourable mention at LA Film Festival 2023
Singh, who is also responsible for promoting the film said that when he completed the postproduction of the movie, he submitted it to the Los Angeles Film Festival. “We are thrilled that they recognised our short film, granting it an honorable mention in the Mobile Short category for October 2023. This is a significant boost for us.”
Mumbai: Two childhood friends with a vision and passion for filmmaking get together to give birth to a short story called ‘10 hours’ filmed on their phones in the ‘City of Dreams’- Mumbai. The short film directed by Apurva Singh and Eshaan Ghosh, class 12 students at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, received an honorable mention at the Los Angeles Film Festival 2023 under the ‘Mobile Short in Indies’ category.
‘10 Hours’ is an action-packed thriller set in the vibrant but often shadowy streets of Mumbai. The concept for the short movie emerges from their mutual love for action movies. When inspiration hit, the humanities students decided to explore an unconventional approach, leading to the birth of the ‘10 Hours’ concept, focusing on nighttime relentless action, proving that gunfight scenes are quite challenging.
Singh’s father, a film enthusiast himself, works at Sony Pictures, who exposed him to discussions about film distribution and related subjects from a young age.
While explaining the concept of the movie, Singh said, “Mumbai, often referred to as “The City of Dreams,” has sadly become a city of firearms. Amidst a wave of shootings and lawlessness, a terrorist attack reshapes the entire landscape, resulting in the tragic loss of life, specifically the wife of a ruthless hitman,” explained Singh. “In just 10 hours, a brutal and vengeful tale of conflict unfolds between two formidable individuals, casting a foreboding shadow over the city as it braces for impending catastrophe.” Singh, the screenwriter of the film, said, “Creating this movie was an incredibly enriching experience for us. Both our families and our school principal, Sunita George, were exceptionally supportive at every step of the way. The school administration even graciously allowed us to use their premises for the shooting.”

Both Singh and Ghosh share a common aspiration to pursue careers in the film industry.
Ghosh, who handled the technical aspects of the film, explained, “We chose to shoot this movie with the iPhone 13 Pro because it offered a cost-effective solution without compromising the quality of production we aimed to achieve.”
George, school principal, said, “This is a moment of great pride and happiness for our school. We have always been dedicated to supporting innovative students, just as we have wholeheartedly backed Singh and Ghosh. We not only permitted them to use our campus for shooting but also one of the teachers helped them with voice-over work. I admire this film; it brilliantly showcases the exceptional filmmaking skills of these class 12 students.”
