Six men who assaulted airport cabbie in viral video arrested
The police said the incident happened on March 25 in the wee hours of the morning in the parking area of the airport.
Mumbai: After a video of a cab driver being assaulted at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport went viral on Saturday, the Sahar police have registered a case and arrested six private contractual workers at the airport. The police also registered a cross-case against the cab driver on the say-so of a female airport staffer who said the cabbie had abused and misbehaved with her, which led to the fight between him and the contractual workers.
The police said the incident happened on March 25 in the wee hours of the morning in the parking area of the airport.
The cab driver, identified as Dayawan Deore, apart from allegedly misbehaving with the woman contractual staffer, had also not parked his vehicle properly. This angered the other staffers, who were seen slapping him in the video.
“Some staffers are also seen trying to stop the assault,” said a police officer from Sahar police station. “After it was reported to us, we registered a case immediately under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and arrested both the parties. They were produced before a court that granted them bail.”
