3 dead, 6 feared trapped as house collapses in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut
Three of eight rescued from a collapsed house in Meerut have died; six remain trapped. Rescue efforts continue amid heavy rainfall.
Three people of the eight rescued people succumbed to injuries while six others are still feared trapped in the debris of a 50-year-old, three-storey house, which collapsed in Zakir Colony, Street Number Seven of Lohia Nagar police station area, on Saturday.
This old house collapsed due to continuous rainfall in the area for three days.
Meerut district magistrate Deepak Meena said there were 14 people living in the house and that eight persons had been pulled out of the rubble, while rescue work was underway to rescue the six other family members.
He said that three people, Sajid, 40, his daughter, Saniya,15 and one and half year old daughter, Simra, died during treatment while five others were undergoing treatment.

Meerut SSP Vipin Tada said, “All rescued persons are undergoing treatment,” said the SSP.
He said that rescue efforts are still underway and teams of NDRF, police and local residents are at work to save the last of those trapped.
According to information, the house belongs to Nafo Alauddin whose two sons live in the house with their wives and children.
The family runs a dairy business in this house. Buffaloes were tied on the lower floor where the dairy runs and they also got buried under the debris due to the sudden collapse of the house.
Due to the house being in the old area of the city and a densely populated area, JCBs were not able to reach the site.
