“In Madhepura, farmers were very much troubled by the blue bull menace. More than 200 blue bulls were spotted in the area, which kept damaging crops. This time again, farmers were worried for the maize crop and sought the forest department’s help,” Renu Kumari, an official from the forest department, said. 

“We have allowed culling of blue bulls at the request of farmers and engaged shooters from Hyderabad,” she said.

“The shooters killed 13 blue bulls on Wednesday. We had planned to continue it for a couple of days, but no blue bull was seen in the area on Thursday. So the shooters have gone to Vaishali district. But the shooting would be resumed in Madhepura in the next 10 days,” she said.

Ranvijay Kumar, a farmer from Sahugarh panchayat, said he was relieved as blue bulls were not spotted at   farms today. “We used to be in great mental stress because of blue bulls. Many farmers had to borrow money from lenders or bank loans for farmers, but the crops used to get damaged by the animals,” he said.

Sohail Farooqi, a professional shooter from Hyderabad, said, “This kind of problem might be there in other areas also. Affected farmers can contact us through proper channels.”

The blue bull menace has affected several districts of Bihar for years.
